Pottery taster session

Service Description

**Pottery taster students - If you would like a follow up session to decorate and glaze your work, this can be arranged at the time of your taster session. Otherwise one piece of work can be completed for you by me at your request and will be posted to you after glaze firing for an additional £20 charge. In addition to one-off taster sessions, I offer regular individual and small group tuition in my Dartmoor studio with plenty of individual attention. Regular classes include clay preparation, throwing and hand building tuition. Please use the contact form to express your interest and I will be in touch. There are three wheels available in the studio and no waiting around for a wheel to become free. We agree a more detailed lesson plan at the start of your lesson, and aim to make something which you would personally enjoy making. A good library of ceramics books and magazines are available, which regular students are welcome to borrow between classes. Occasionally we may get the opportunity in the summer to participate in workshop sessions on alternative firing techniques, including barrel firing and raku. ADDITIONAL COSTS If you attend classes regularly there is an additional charge of £4 per item if students wish to take finished fired work home. This covers the cost of all materials, and two firings in an electric kiln. If students purchase their own clay - and I can offer advice on doing this - the cost is reduced to £3.00 ATTENDANCE If you are unable to attend a class you need to give at least 48 hours notice - and where possible, an alternative date will be arranged. There will be no refunds for missed classes, but I will always try to find a substitute time and day for you and your class mate(s). It is important to attend regularly to get the most out of classes. CLOTHING Please wear comfortable clothes which you don’t mind getting clay on - an apron is a good idea - and for health and safety please tie your hair back if it is long.
